You are a busy person, with limited time and financial resources. Why should you invest a day, some cash and, maybe, some travel expenses to become CIRI-certified in the ISSA Clean Standard: K-12 Schools?
Whether selling cleaning products or cleaning services, we all worry about being thought of as a “commodity” and our only defense is a lower price. Experts say that we need to provide “value-added” services to command a premium and defend against “low-ball” bids. Whether you use your certification to help your customers as part of your overall package or as an “add-on” for extra money, you will be that “value-added” supplier.
We know that cleaners need continuous training to keep their skills sharp. But, what training do they need most, and how do you impress them that this is not just your “personal opinion”? Certification in the ISSA Clean Standard: K-12 Schools will answer these questions and provide the continuous improvement you need.
The research behind the ISSA Clean Standard: K-12 Schools, as well as numerous other studies have shown that cleaner schools are healthier schools and that ATP is a reliable measure of cleanliness. A cleaner school leads to better attendance. This means more money and higher student performance — the major goals of school administrators.
When money gets tight (and it always does!), cleaning and maintenance are often the first areas cut. Or, expanded duties are given to the staff, without adequate resources. Certification in the ISSA Clean Standard: K-12 Schools will provide you with the objective tools to show what a school will gain or lose as a result of budget decisions.
You, personally, will become more employable and promotable when you can demonstrate objective, reliable measurement of your work. Being certified in the ISSA Clean Standard: K-12 Schools provides that demonstration.
Applying the ISSA Clean Standard: K-12 Schools means to look closely at your cleaning results and operations. You modify your program as needed to maintain the objective measure of cleanliness you adopt. As you conduct and modify your cleaning program over time, you make it more efficient. This allows you to reduce costs, all the while guaranteeing you do not sacrifice results. This is value-engineering at its best!
You are a CIRI-certified assessor or supervisor in the ISSA Clean Standard: K-12 Schools. This certification comes from the organization doing the research that defines a clean school. Your competitors — other BSCs or distributors - are not certified. You win! Make this part of your customers’ bid specifications and your product or service will have a built-in competitive advantage. For in-house providers, you can now compete better with other departments for limited school resources.
CIRI provides a newsletter detailing lessons learned and other information to all certified practitioners. Also, inexpensive refresher courses are offered on-line to keep you current. This is your link to advances in cleaning science.
The biggest school health-related fear is a breakout of a serious illness - MRSA, H1N1, C.diff, etc. Buildings shut down, staff is diverted to severe “deep cleaning” activities, and everyone wonders, “will it be back? Did we get it all?” Research has shown that the presence of the organisms causing these diseases is reduced by proper cleaning. You are certified to measure the level of clean in a school. This will reduce the likelihood of a breakout, and provide you with a process to change your program should a breakout occur.
