• These factors, referred to as the 5 Cs, are as follows: Crowding, frequent skin-to-skin Contact, Compromised skin (i.e., cuts or abrasions), Contaminated items and surfaces, and lack of Cleanliness.
CDC
Parasitic amoeba (Entamoeba histolytica) causes amebic dysentery & ulcers (vegetative trophozoite stage). Amebic dysentery is spread by fecal contamination of food and water and is most common where sanitation is poor. Amoebae invade the intestine but may spread to the liver, lungs and other tissues. Infection is caused by the ingestion of cysts in contaminated food or water. Cysts develop into the pathogenic trophozoite forms seen here. Entamoeba histolytica occurs worldwide, with up to 50% of the population being infected primarily in warmer climates.
