High Cost of Foodborne Illness
A single outbreak of foodborne illness can cost a foodservice operation as much as $75,000 in legal fees, medical claims, lost employee wages, cleaning and sanitizing, discarded food supplies, and lost income from negative publicity and/or being shut down. That figure increases dramatically if the incident involves death or serious injury.

Air Quality Sciences, Inc. (AQS) recently released its Green Cleaning for Health, a myth-busting white paper that explores the potential health implications of various cleaning products and methods and sheds light on green cleaning. Green Cleaning for Health discusses the future of certification programs and initiatives promoting a greener, healthier concept of clean.
Green cleaning has gained momentum in the marketplace as related consumer market products quadrupled in sales from 2003 to 2008. It is anticipated that by 2013 green cleaner sales will reach $623 million and account for 30 percent of the household cleaners market as compared to just 3 percent in 2008. Still, consumer awareness surrounding marketing claims for green cleaners is devastatingly low.
Green Cleaning for Health talks about the importance of cleaning while cautioning that steps should be taken to ensure products and methods are effective and healthy for consumers and commercial users. The paper also summarizes certification programs and other initiatives promoting green cleaning and dispels common assumptions associated with conventional cleaning. Use of non-toxic products and decreased exposure to risky chemicals improve indoor air quality (IAQ) and overall occupant health. This indicates that green cleaning can truly revolutionize the way our homes, educational facilities and workplaces are maintained. The paper also provides guidance on how to verify green or healthy claims through credible third party certifications.
